Islamabad: Mir Ghazanfar Ali khan shaking hands with the PM during a recent meeting
Islamabad: The Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has decided to appoint Mir Ghazanfar Ali as the new governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. The decision will be ratified by the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain in due course of time.
Rani Atiqa, wife of Mir Ghazanfar, has said that the oath-taking place is likely to take place on Tuesday in Gilgit city.
Mir Ghazanfar has consistently been elected to represent Hunza, his home constituency, in various representative bodies of Gilgit-Baltistan. He has served in the past as the Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Executive of GB.
Hunza, a former princely state, shares borders with Afghanistan and China. It is an important part of the multi-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.
Ghzanfar will replace Chaudhary Barjees Tahir, a federal minister, as GB Governor.
